It's been great to read through all the comments and be encouraged by your faith.

I recently preached a sermon about this passage and the main things that struck me as I was preparing was that the kind of spiritual life that we read about - one that produces a harvest - is possible for everyone.

I think sometimes I find it all too easy to read about great Christians and simply assume that their level of faith, or relationship with God is not possible for me. The result is that I end up reading certain passages of the bible as a method of boosting moral, but not for learning and replicating.

G.K. Chesterton wrote “Christianity hasn’t been tried and found wanting, but found hard and left untried!”

I think many of my spiritual problem (and many of the churches spiritual problems!) stem from the belief that the teachings of Jesus aren’t meant to be actually, literally applied, that somehow they are metaphorical, or anagogical. There messages thoughts to be pondered and discussed, not applied and lived out.

As I read through this passage I believe that it tells us that there IS a way to receive the seed (the gospel) in such a way that it produces real change in our lives. If anyone is interested, I’ve attached the link to my sermon, in it I investigate more how we go about receiving the Gospel into our lives so that it does produce a harvest - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/c46d2u1c8hvgurk/1xWnzNcQwg

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05294153191166466587noreply@blogger.com
