Read and meditate on Psalm 113. What major blessings in your life demand praise to your Creator?

“When they (Jesus & His disciples) had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” (Mark 14:26)

“Certain psalms also came to be associated with certain special days, particularly the Passover. When Jesus and the disciples sang a hymn before going to Gethsemane, it was probably one of the Hallel hymns. The Hallel (think: Hallel lujah) hymns included Psalms 113-118, plus 136. At least some of these were sung in the first century during temple ceremonies, but they were also used by families when they ate the Passover meal in their homes.” (Wolfe, Songs, Cymbals, and Tambourines, p. 71)

“Be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18-19)

Add to your knowledge…

Commit this passage to memory: “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come…Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:8, 12)

An Irish Saying on St. Patrick’s Day…

“May your mornings bring joy and your evenings bring peace.
May your troubles grow few as your blessings increase.
May the saddest day of your future
Be no worse than the happiest day of your past.
May your hands be forever clasped in friendship
And your hearts joined forever in love.
[Our] lives are very special,
God has touched you in many ways.
May his blessings rest upon you
and fill all your coming days.”

“I want you to honor and look up to people like that: companions and workers who show us how to do it, giving us something to aspire to. I want you to know how delighted I am to have Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus here with me. They partially make up for your absence! They’ve refreshed me by keeping me in touch with you. Be proud that you have people like this among you.” (1 Corinthians 16:16-18, The Message)

“Poise means holding fast to your principles and acting in accordance with them regardless of how bad or good the situation may be. Poise means avoiding pose or pretense, comparing yourself to others, or acting like someone or something you’re not. Poise means having a brave heart in all circumstances.” (John Wooden)

Define the term “POISE.” How, and when, is poise necessary in your life?
