I Corinthians has 4 verses about foolishness. I Co. 1:18, I Co. 1:23, I Co. 1:25, I Co. 2:14.
I then looked up the word foolishness:1) Folly; want of understanding. 2) Foolish practice; want of wisdom or good judgment. 3) In a scriptural sense, absurdity; folly.
Then I looked up folly: 1) Weakness of intellect; imbecility of mind; want of understanding. 2) A weak or absurd act not highly criminal; an act which is inconsistent with the dictates of reason, or with the ordinary rules of prudence. 3) An absurd act which is highly sinful; any conduct contrary to the laws of God, or man; sin; scandalous crimes; that which violates moral precepts and dishonors the offender.
So to me it looks like those who do not know and practice God’s laws are foolish.
The way to avoid being foolish is to know God’s word.
The verse I liked was: I Co. 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
“For the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 1:7
Spiritual growth and clarity can only come through tempered discipline; discipline that stems from reverence in the Lord God Almighty! When we reject consequence or take actions based on immediate gratification or selfish intent we act in foolishness disregarding repercussion and forsaking God.
