Add to your knowledge...
Commit this passage to memory: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?" (James 4:7-12)

i like that picture a lot...very encouraging.
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that this blog is awesome. I found this just the other day looking up different information on different gyms and stuff and this whole concept is amazing. I want to say thank you cause since I have found it I have been getting on here everyday. I get on here and look at the WOD then I go to my gyms blog and check out what work out we have. This scripture is amazing though. We just have to commit ourselves to God and know he is the only judge and almighty. We just have to humble ourselves and trust in him.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that we should humble ourselves unto the Lord. I guess I am a little confused about the whole "mourn, wail, grieve, and gloom part." Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI believe He is talking to the sinners and double minded. Telling them to grieve, mourn, and wail. To turn their joy and laughter to gloom and mourning. To humble themselves before the Lord.
ReplyDeleteAmen! Love the Scripture and the Picture. Jesus is My Hero!
ReplyDeleteWell the mourning and grieving is because we are all born into sin and all do sin. The verse is talking about that we should all mourn because we sin and that we need to give it all up to God. When we can give it all up to God that means we are born again and we are getting away from our dead life.
ReplyDeleteWoody, the Bible is written to believers not the sinners or unsaved. we as believers are to humble ourselves, mourn, weep, etc. over our condition and the condition of the Church.
ReplyDeletellChronicles 7:14 says if MY people who are called by MY name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.

ReplyDeleteMaybe James was referring to the death of Christ for which we need to mourn. It is easy to forget sometimes as we go about our day to day lives today, distracted and sinning. I think James is asking us to change our thinking to almost the complete opposite to help us realise how we should really feel, if we are one of those who is sinning, judgeing others, or not being humble. That's what I am thinking...
Take care, God Bless
These verses aren't new to me but always very relevant in my life. I find that I must submit areas of my life to Christ daily. True submission means I give that area to Him and take my hands off of it. I no longer worry and continue to do the best I can knowing He is in control. The second part that deals with gossip can so easily sneak in when we expect it the least. I have to remind myself to be aware of negative people. I am thankful for the reminder of this weekend's scripture and look forward to meditating on it as we move into a new week.
