This verse has convicted me before. I love it now. I have told my wife that "I love you, but I love God more" and I have told my kids "I love you, but I love your mom more, and I love God more than that."
ReplyDeleteIt is easy for us to get caught up in loving someone who needs us more than loving someone we cannot see or fail to visit with every day.
Love God first, but make your spouse second. I have seen many instances where the parents put their kids above their spouse, and when they move out, the marriage is done. Don't do that. Love him/her second only behind God.
1. Christ. He has guided me through my entire life, ups and downs is always there and always will be.

whatwhat, the best scripture for me to define "taking up my cross" is Matthew 5:10, 11. maybe this will shed some light for for you.
ReplyDeletethe 3 most important individuals in my life are: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. back in the '80's my husband and i cruised the intercoastal waterway, crossed the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas. My children were grown, however, i'd never been so far away from them for the winter before. while underway and reading the Bible one day i read this Matthew 10 passage which gave me great peace as i let go of the children and embraced the adventure of meeting new "family" which we did all along the way! God took great care of my boys and brought us all safely together that Spring. To God be the Glory! i never would have made it had it not been for my relationship with the Godhead.
ReplyDeleteIn the context of Matthew 10 - taking up my cross is equal to losing my life (verse 38-39). When I do so, I am promised I will find true life. As I turn over my life to Christ - my wants, desires, human wisdom - I empty myself and fill up with Christ. John the baptist said "He must increase. I must decrease." (John 3:30). Only in Christ, I find true abundant life - purpose for living and hope of eternal life. (John 10:10)
