Define the concept of "shame."

"To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; in you I trust, O my God.  Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.  No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse." (Psalm 25:1-3)

  1. Shame is defined as: A painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior. Acknowledging our behavior as being offensive to God is good and we should be aware of that fact, but anything that separates us from the knowledge that we are forgiven or loved regardless is not of God! That is our enemy attacking us. By grace we are saved and "no one whose hope is in [God] will ever be put to shame".

  2. Shame is looking down because of guilt instead of looking up because of grace.
