TODAY'S STEPS

READ:  Matthew 1

REFLECT:  Why did Jesus come to this earth?

RESOLVE:  When tempted to hold resentment toward another - quietly say the phrase: "It's not about me."

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us)."

  1. It is put in very simple terms, "he will save his people from their sins". I attended and bible study today, and decided I would teach a fellow Marine about the gospel. He didn't understand why Jesus wasn't just another man who happened to perform all of these miracles. I had to explain to him that one of the reasons God sent Jesus was to show people the difference between right and wrong. That one man could take the ultimate sacrifice by dying for us, for the forgiveness of our sins. To allow people the chance to repent for their sins in exchange for God's everlasting love and a place in his kindgom. As it says in Matthew 1, name the baby Immanuel, which translates into "God is with us".

  2. How about this phrase? IT'S ABOUT WE, NOT ME. I love this story: There was a song leader who announced to the congregation that they would sing the first verse ONLY of a particular song to close out the service. An elder spoke up and told him to sing the last verse too. The song was None of Self and All of Thee written in 1874 by Theodore Monod. So, when I find myself being selfish I will say to myself "First Verse Only."
