"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." (Ephesians 4:31-32)

ReplyDeleteOn the surface it would seem to be easier to hold onto resentment, as opposed to doing the hard work of forgiveness. Plus, stored resentment seems to authorize bad behavior toward those who did the hurting and it can give an excuse for our own stuckness. All shown as false once you can experience the grace of forgiveness. "Forgive us our debts as we (in the same way, to the same degree-what if God only forgave my nearly everpresent sin to the same degree I can forgive those who hurt me) forgive our debtors."

I do think this is generally one of the things I'm better at, but I'm not sure it's for the right reason. I think it's mostly that I just tend to forget about things or get over them, even if they aren't resolved.
