TODAY'S STEPS
REFLECT:  How can the same aroma smell appealing to one, but pungent to another?

RESPOND:  Identify 3 individuals who have resisted your attempt to honor God by spreading the knowledge of Christ.  Pray for their forgiveness, receptivity, and their ultimate good.

"But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven...If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that?" (Matthew 5:43-48)

  1. The aroma of Christ and of the believer is very powerful and can overwhelm the senses. I have personally seen close family members shy away from the sweet aroma of Christ as they hear about the saving works on the cross. I try to always see things from other's perspective and I can certainly understand their fears of this awesome act.

Throughout my workday, I am very intentional about "being me" and "shinning the light" in my place of business. I think that also can be very intimidating to a non-believer (as human nature is to doubt what they see and hear). My immediate supervisor is a "evangelical atheist" and I know that at times the aroma of Christ is almost too much for him. I am then faced with a choice of how to respond and I try to chose the humble way, while not compromising myself for him.

I think that the hardest part of this journey is to remember to pray for them. My sinful self would lead me to "keep score" and/or just attempt to move past them. I need to be more intentional about my prayer for these folks...I have to remember that while I was still sinning, Christ died for me...for me...I did not deserve this free gift and it is a gift meant to be shared, not hoarded...
