TODAY'S STEPS
READ:  Philippians 1:1-10

REFLECT:  How do we learn to "approve what is excellent?"

RESPOND:

1 - Define "excellence."
2 - Identify something you have approved as excellent due to its connection with the Creator.
3 - List other items, people, or activities you once saw as excellent but can not be approved as excellent.

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." (Philippians 4:8)

  1. As I think of excellence, I think of it more as a pursuit than something that can clearly be identified... To me this applies to many if not all aspects of life, can we as people, as christians operate at a higher level in all aspects of our lives... Can I be a more loving husband, a better father, friend... Can I inspire my co-workers and bring more value to our organization, can I set better priorities in my life, can I be a more supportive member of my CF community... I try to remind myself of these things as I go through my daily routines and at times I take for granted all the blessings in my life... Excellence comes in those daily interactions with others where we make a positive difference in someone else's life... I need to do a better job of taking advantage of the opportunities... One way to think of it is having a mindset, everyday is an opportunity to pusue excellence in all aspects of what we do... Can we make a positive difference in the lives of others...

  2. The increase in the knowledge of God allows us to approve those things that are excellent...good and evil...however, it is more the determining good and evil...it is about distinguishing the best from the good!...Christian wisdom...growing in spiritual knowledge...Give Me the Bible by Priscilla J. Owens in 1883

  3. I associate excellence with high standards, outstanding quality, positive attitudes, and sincere efforts. Tithing is an excellent activity as it allows us to give back to the Lord what is His in the first place. I do not see it as an obligation but as a way of thanking the Lord for blessing me and also as a way to help my church community in its mission to serve others. It is a humbling experience because it is a personal exchange between God and myself. No one sees how much I give; therefore, there is no glory given to myself.

P.S. TGIF, happy Valentine's day, and to those who got hit by the snowstorm madness these past few days.. stay safe and warm!
